Why is summer important for dancers, what is important, and how you can achieve it during intensives?

At ABA, our classes have officially ended, and our summer intensives are soon to begin. They have always been so much fun to attend as well as beneficial. Gaining strength after injuries or making sure that they keep in shape is something that intensives can support them with. Expanding a dancer’s flexibility and strength and increasing their technique and artistry are some of the many other benefits that can help a dancer.

During the summer, vacations are necessary for some people, but for others, staying at home and relaxing is another option. Both can affect a dancers’ lifestyle, as less activity can cause a dancer to easily harm themself if they push too hard during the beginning of the year. Doing something daily and making sure the muscles are warm before dancing is a great way to maintain the dancer’s shape and preventing major injuries during later classes. Taking classes in the summer and finding muscle memory can help dancers grow during the year, instead of going backward and starting the whole process over again. That adds to the fact that consistently stretching can increase flexibility and doing different exercises can maintain the strength in the body. It is important to know how far the dancer can go so that there is less chance of them getting injured.

With all the different classes at the summer intensives, there are always a lot of opportunities to improve, whether it being technique class or Pilates/conditioning. Setting a goal for the summer can allow someone to develop and attain stability, as long as they keep that goal and strive to achieve it. Another way to achieve what you want during the summer intensive is writing down corrections using that to improve and understand what you need to do next. During summer intensives, there are several possible ways to develop and accomplish the goals that are made.
